Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking an experienced Licensed Practical Nurse to join the Emergency Department at the U of A Hospital in Edmonton. This Regular Full Time position offers an 11.08-hour shift length, Nights/Weekends rotation, 1.00 FTE, and a posting end date of 08-SEP-2026.

You’ll provide patient and family centred care in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, with exposure to high-acuity emergencies and advanced technology.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with CLPNA.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Medication Administration via Central Line module (CVC, PICC, or IVAD) completed within CLPNA framework.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have completed the Medication Administration via Central Line module (CVC, PICC, or IVAD) within the CLPNA Restricted Activities and Advanced Authorizations framework. Demonstrated strong assessment, organizational, and patient care skills. The ability to communicate clinical findings clearly and accurately. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities, along with the capacity to identify their own learning needs and seek guidance in areas where additional knowledge or support is required. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will have a minimum of one year of LPN experience in an Emergency Department, with additional preference given to those who have worked in a tertiary care setting or who have recent acute or critical care experience within the past two years. Candidates with at least two years of relevant medical surgical experience may also be considered.
