Job summary

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the U33 Neurology and Medicine unit at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre will work within an interprofessional team, delivering patient- and family-centred care and applying nursing processes and critical thinking to a broad range of medical inpatients.

You will be guided by education, experience, and required standards, with a focus on safety, quality, and continuous learning in an acute care setting.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.
• Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the CLHA.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
• Previous experience in neurology and/or stroke, medical acute care, or rural acute care setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide safe, high-quality, patient- and family-centred care within an interprofessional health care team.
• Utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making in daily practice.
• Follow applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies and procedures.

U33 is the Neurology and Medicine unit at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre. We are an acute care inpatient unit that houses the Central Zone Neurologist and Red Deer Stroke Programs, functioning as the zone’s primary care centre for stroke and neurology patients. You will receive specialized and advanced training in these populations as well as valuable experience in a wide range of internal medicine and hospitalist level patients, helping you develop an exceptional range of nursing skills. The unit uses Collaborative Care where teams of RNs, LPNs, and HCAs work together to their full scopes alongside a vast interdisciplinary team. This allows staff to grow and support each other each and every day. Extensive educational opportunities are provided as the unit strives to provide stroke unit care at the same levels as Edmonton and Calgary. Mentorship, leadership, quality improvement, and professional development pathways are always available so that nurses can work towards their unique career goals. Of course, the unit also encourages our people to maintain a healthy work and lifestyle balance so that nurses from all walks of life can work and thrive.
