Covenant Health's Unit 42 General Surgery at Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join a busy acute surgical unit. The LPN will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic, quality care while leading within their scope of practice.
The role requires active CLHA registration and BLS Level C, with recent surgical experience. This is Regular Part Time (0.70 FTE) with shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Unit 42 is a 32 bed surgical unit serving over 3000 Albertans per year. The services we have comprise mainly of: General Surgery, Gynecological Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, ENT and Plastic Surgery. Unit 42 is a very busy, acute surgical unit that requires a high functioning team environment. Please note: Number of hours per shift and shifts per cycle is for information purposes only.
Description: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care and support to patients/residents and families. The LPN must be able to team lead effectively on their own. The LPN works to the full scope of practice in providing safe, quality care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.
Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent required.Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA).Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:In addition to CH basic required qualifications. Recent surgical or acute nursing experience within the last year (equivalent of 6 months full‑time hours). This job is physically demanding, the incumbent will be required to assist with lifting, turning, and mobilizing patients as well as other physical tasks. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods up to 5 hours of an 8‑hour shift and occasionally lift weights up to 11 kg (24 pounds) and push/pull weights up to 27 kg (60 pounds). Ability to lift 5 kg (8‑11 pounds) above shoulder. Ability to work various shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends and statutory holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:A recent successful preceptorship on an inpatient surgical unit may be considered. Experience with Peripherally Inserted Central catheters, negative pressure wound therapy, central nutrition.
