Job summary

Waterloo Region District School Board is seeking a Temporary Library Clerk (C) at Sir Adam Beck PS. Reporting to the Principal, you will support circulation, access to resources, and promote reading in print and digital formats.

The position is 22 hours per week, 10 months/year, effective as soon as possible to July 6, 2027, with duties including handling materials, assisting users, maintaining records, and monitoring equipment.

Qualifications

  • Secondary School graduation diploma is required.
  • At least one year of clerical experience; library experience preferred; THR Library Clerks: Insignia Library Fundamentals basic training and library experience is required.
  • Insignia advanced training (preferred) including circulation management, search and discover and online library support.
  • Strong keyboarding skills and ability to learn new software applications.

Responsibilities

  • Charge, discharge, shelve and repair loaned materials.
  • Assist staff and students in library use and locating resources.
  • Handle overdues, records and correspondence.
  • File and process new materials and Ministry software.
  • Monitor library automation hardware and audiovisual equipment.

Applicants will be considered in the following order:

1) Qualified permanent ESS/OSSTF Bargaining Unit employees.

2) Qualified probationary, temporary and Temporary Hourly Rated (THR) ESS/OSSTF employees.

3) Qualified external applicants (includes employees from other Bargaining Units)

Reporting to the Principal, and following the "Best Practices and Guidelines" related to library circulation and collection maintenance as outlined by ITS Library and Resource Services, this position is responsible for performing clerical duties in the elementary school library. The library clerk will play an important role in the school in encouraging the love of reading and providing access to resources for learning, and promoting use of resources in print and digital formats.

The successful applicant for this Temporary Educational Support Staff position Level C will work 22hours per week, 10 months per year, effective as soon as possible to July 6, 2027.

Responsibilities
  • Charging, discharging, shelving and repairing loaned materials;
  • Assisting staff and students in the use of the library and locating resources using the integrated library system;
  • Handling overdues, statistical records and correspondence;
  • Filing and processing new materials, Ministry software, etc; and
  • Monitoring library automation hardware and audiovisual equipment and accessories.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Secondary School graduation diploma is required;
  • At least one years experience in the clerical field required, preferably in a library;THR Library Clerks: Insignia Library Fundamentals basic training and library experience is required;
  • Enhanced library working knowledge through completion of the following workshop is preferred: Insignia advanced training session which includes library fundamentals, circulation management, search and discover and online library support.
  • Well-developed keyboarding skills;
  • Ability to learn new software applications and adapt to the ever-changing nature of school libraries;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the job including but not necessarily limited to stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching above shoulder level, standing for extended periods of time, lifting, pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance.
