Library Assistant 1 (2 Auxiliary On-Call Positions)

Position Title: Library Assistant 1 (2 Auxiliary On-Call Positions)

Serving almost 90,000 residents at three full-service locations and one Express Library throughout the beautiful District of North Vancouver, we are proud to provide free and equitable access to welcoming spaces, diverse collections and digital resources, a wide range of technology and computers, including StoryLab, and so much more. Position Overview:
Reporting to the Manager, Community Connections, you will assist in delivering our very popular Summer Reading Club program at the Capilano or Parkgate Library.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  1. Registering children for Summer Reading Club
  2. Assisting with promotion, displays and programming
  3. Interacting with children on return visits
  4. Other library duties

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  1. Be registered in the Young Canada Works online candidate inventory and meet program eligibility criteria; please refer to:

  2. Be enthusiastic about reading and can model reading as an enjoyable & preferable activity
  3. Be a university student who enjoys working with children of all ages
  4. Be approachable and willing to try different ways of engaging children

It’s Great If You:

  1. Work well as part of a team and can share and implement creative ideas
  2. Have some knowledge of children’s literature and are looking to gain more
  3. Can impart the same information over & over again with the same passion & enthusiasm
  4. Like to have fun at work

Enrolment in Library School, Library Technician program, or a faculty of Education would be an asset, as would proficiency with Excel, Google Docs, Publisher and other current technologies.

Compensation:
The hourly pay rate for this unionized position starts at $24.28, based on a 20-hour workweek, plus 12% in Lieu of Benefits. This work requires flexible availability, including evenings and weekend shifts. These positions are for 10 weeks/200 hours and will commence on June 10th and conclude on August 31st, 2025.
