The Library's Digitization Centre provides consultation and expertise on best practices in digitization procedures, and services include scanning and processing in preparation for deposit in a research repository or database. The Centre offers consultations on selection of file format, file-naming conventions, directory structure of complex (multi-file) content, and techniques for digitizing oversize and fragile source material. The Centre also supports the Centre for Accessible Learning by preparing course reading material for SFU students with print disability.

About the Role

The Library Assistants in the Digitization Centre will collaborate with the Digitization Librarian, other library and SFU employees on a variety of digitization tasks and other related duties consistent with position title and classification. This will include: Scanning, digitizing and formatting digital, printed and other physical materials; checking the quality and accuracy of digitized work; copying and moving digital files; adding and updating file names to reflect the contents of a digital object, reflect new information, improve organization and to follow appropriate naming conventions; using written and verbal instruction to use the tools and technology available to digitize objects and materials; following and executing all relevant library and Centre’s policies, procedures and guidelines; and maintaining record inventories.

The ideal candidate should have the ability to pay close attention to detail, follow detailed instructions, accomplish an assigned task according to instructions independently, and cooperate with other team members and supervisor.

Qualifications

High school graduation. Enrolled at SFU for the semester you are working.1 year of experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.

  • Working knowledge of and experience with internet browsers, word processing, file explorers and spreadsheets.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with computers, scanning software and hardware.
  • Willing to learn new computer skills for audio programs and willing to troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to work independently and with others while maintaining consistent standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to be exceptionally accurate and pay careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle routine & repetitive work efficiently.

Additional Information

The assignment start/end dates are: September 9 2026 to December 18, 2026.

Priority will be given to qualified registered SFU students who must submit a Fall 2026 class schedule with their application. This is a part-time position working 16 hours biweekly. There are up to 3 positions available.
