About the role
Legal Counsel, Senior Counsel or Lead Counsel
We’re seeking a Legal Counsel, Senior Counsel, or Lead Counsel to join our dynamic team!
Reporting to the Director, Legal Affairs for Insurance, Regulatory, and Marketing (QC), the successful candidate will support a broad range of insurance regulatory matters related to our operations in Quebec. Your work will directly impact our growth and insurance activities. You will provide high-quality legal advice and innovative business solutions concerning our products, services, and activities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as Legal Counsel, Senior Counsel, or Lead Counsel for IFC and its subsidiaries, primarily in insurance regulatory law, including product development, distribution, market conduct, licensing, and marketing law.
- Providing legal guidance on daily operational matters.
- Drafting, analyzing, and negotiating service and distribution contracts.
- Ensuring legal and regulatory compliance in the distribution of financial products and services, respecting organizational values.
- Participating in national strategic projects collaboratively with senior legal management.
Qualifications :
- Member of the Barreau du Québec in good standing.
- Minimum of 3+ years experience in a large law firm or in-house department, specializing in commercial, corporate, or insurance law, preferably in regulated industries.
- Strong legal skills with excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication abilities.
- Ability to manage files independently with minimal support.
- Proficiency with technology tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Sound judgment with strategic thinking regarding legal risks.
- Proactive in proposing innovative business solutions.
- Ability to build relationships and influence decision-making at operational and corporate levels.
- Team player capable of collaboration.
- Effective at prioritizing and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Bilingual in French and English, both written and spoken, for regular interaction with colleagues across Canada.
- No Canadian work experience required, but must be eligible to work in Canada.
