About the Role

Reporting to Senior Counsel, Construction Law, this role involves providing legal advice on construction and procurement issues to various regional entities, drafting and negotiating contracts, and handling dispute resolution related to construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal and procedural advice on applicable legal requirements.
  • Offer risk management strategies.
  • Negotiate and prepare legal documents for construction and operational projects.
  • Represent the Region in dispute resolution, negotiations, and legal proceedings.
  • Prepare reports for Regional Council and Committees.
  • Attend meetings and respond to client inquiries.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel and professionals.
  • Stay updated on legal developments relevant to regional responsibilities.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop junior staff and team members.
Qualifications
  • Law Degree (L.L.B. or J.D.) from an accredited university.
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Senior Associate Counsel: Minimum 5 years in Construction Law, with strong Contract and Procurement Law background.
  • Counsel: Minimum 7 years in Construction Law, with strong Contract and Procurement Law background.
  • Exceptional drafting and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and leadership abilities.
  • Proven analytical, decision-making, and political acumen skills.
