AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY :
Reporting to the Deputy City Solicitor, this position involves serving as a municipal solicitor responsible for providing legal services, including opinions and advice to the Corporation and its Departments to ensure legal compliance and security.
Responsibilities include delivering competent, timely legal services in cooperation with Legal Services staff and City Departments, advising on municipal by-laws, contracts, real estate, construction, commercial matters, taxation, procurement, planning, and development issues. The role involves drafting legal documents, conducting due diligence, negotiating with external parties, representing the City before tribunals, and participating in Council and Committee meetings.
Qualifications include a Law degree, membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, 3-5 years of relevant experience, especially in municipal, planning, or real estate law, and proficiency in legal research, negotiation, and communication skills.
Additional assets include experience with Ontario Land Tribunal, LPAT, or OMB, and the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams. The role may require passing various tests or exams during the selection process. Interviews may be conducted via video conference.
