Job summary

iA Financial Group in Quebec is seeking a Legal Counsel to support Dealer Services. You will work at the intersection of business, regulatory, and product development, providing practical legal advice on insurance products and warranties across Canada.

The role favors candidates with a law degree and Barreau du Québec membership, 5+ years of experience, and strong negotiation skills. A collaborative, proactive mindset and bilingual English/French ability are valued in a dynamic, hybrid work

Qualifications

• Holds a university degree in law and is a member of the Barreau du Québec.
• Five or more years of relevant legal experience.
• Strong business acumen with ability to translate complex legal matters into practical solutions.
• Intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and sound judgment.
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex legal concepts clearly.
• Collaborative, proactive, solution-oriented with multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Experience in commercial/contract law and knowledge of insurance or financial services is ideal.
• Intermediate English proficiency due to cross-Canada collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical, business-focused legal advice to partners across business areas.
• Conduct legal and regulatory analyses in insurance and consumer protection; offer actionable recommendations.
• Support implementation of legislative and regulatory changes.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements.
• Contribute to development of products and services, especially insurance products and warranties.
• Collaborate with business, Compliance, and Risk Management teams.
• Participate in working groups and industry committees.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and organizational transformation initiatives.

• Contribute to the development and enhancement of products and services, particularly insurance products and warranties;
• Collaborate with business and multidisciplinary teams, as well as Compliance and Risk Management;

• Holds a university degree in law and is a member of the Barreau du Québec;
• Has five or more years of relevant legal experience;

• Has excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly;

• Ideally has experience in commercial and contract law, as well as knowledge of insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated industry;
• Has an intermediate level of English proficiency, as the role requires frequent oral and written communication with the Dealer Services network across Canada and collaboration with unilingual English-speaking colleagues primarily located in Western Canada.
