Job summary

A reputable Toronto law firm is seeking a Legal Accounting Clerk to join its dynamic team. This mid-senior level position offers a chance to work closely with firm partners and accountants, ensuring compliance and efficiency in financial processes. Job description

Client Profile Our client, a reputable Toronto firm is currently looking for a Legal Accounting Clerk. This firm has an excellent culture and many career development opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports directly to the Partners;
  • Ensuring all financial actions comply with local legal requirements;
  • Payroll, HST, LSUC and LPIC filings, etc.;
  • Work with Firm’s accountants at Y/E;
  • Daily posting of accounts payable in Xero;
  • Prepare cheques (trust and operating accounts);
  • Certify cheques when required;
  • Maintain database for accounting records;
  • Post client receipts and expenses;
  • Handle monthly bank reconciliations for trust and operating accounts; and
  • Additional tasks as required.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of accounting experience in a law firm;
  • Great interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks while adhering to tight deadlines;
  • Familiarity with the general principles of accounting;
  • Strong understanding of math and numbers;
  • Ability to perform various financial transactions such as month/year end; accounts payable and receivables;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel;
  • Knowledge of Xero and LEAP will be considered an asset (willing to train the right candidate);
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and time management skills; and
