The City of Lethbridge is seeking a seasoned Legal Assistant to provide essential legal services for its operations. The role involves preparing legal documents for various transactions and supporting the administration of contracts, with a particular focus on real estate. The Role:
As our newest team member, you will provide mainstream Legal Assistant services in the preparation of complex documents and activities related to the City’s business operations – ranging from commercial real estate transactions, to municipal planning, construction, and litigation. This includes legal documents and contracts pertaining to tenders; employment; construction; leases; encroachments; funding; professional services; and fee-for-service agreements. You will administer tender contracts, ensuring compliance with bonding and insurance requirements; and register documentation for the City Solicitor; Planning; Assessment & Taxation, at Land Titles. In addition to the aforementioned, this position will have a focus on residential real estate, handling files from the drafting of purchase agreements, through to closing.
We’ll also require your seasoned experience for bylaw preparation, registration, and maintenance for City Council; administrative activities related to enforcement matters; as well as other legal matters handled by the Department. Responding to inquiries and requests from other City departments, outside agencies, and the public; as well as serving as a Commissioner for Oaths, will round out your portfolio of work.
Your Professional experience and skillset:
7+ years of relevant technical training and experience equivalent to the level of a Senior Legal Assistant
Skill in conducting relevant legal research, complemented by an experienced understanding of municipal and provincial government statutes, including FOIP legislation
Consideration will be given to other acceptable combinations of training and experience
Previous experience in a municipal government setting will also be considered an asset
Customer service skills that are collaborative, supportive, and responsive
A high regard for maintaining confidentiality with respect to all legal and privacy matters
Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy
Advanced ability to work independently and self-govern workload
Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills to produce results in a time-sensitive environment
Superior working knowledge of various software applications, including SharePoint, Spin II, CORE, Prolaw, and GIS systems
Maintaining files using a diary system
