Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) is seeking a Learning Modernization Lead to shape the future of its learning portfolio. You will research trends, evaluate programs, and develop evidence-based recommendations, driving modernization initiatives from planning to implementation.

Job description

Help shape the future of learning at the ACSA

Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) is looking for a Learning Modernization Lead who is curious about where learning is going next and knows how to turn research, insights, and emerging ideas into practical solutions.

In this newly focused role, you will explore evolving learner needs; research emerging learning trends, practices, technologies, and delivery models; and develop evidence-based recommendations to help shape the future of ACSA's learning portfolio. Once priorities are approved, you'll take the lead in moving modernization initiatives from idea to implementation.

You’ll work cross-departmentally to connect the dots, identify opportunities, build the case for change, and lead approved learning modernization initiatives forward.

Lead role providing advanced expertise in adult learning, learning modernization, research, portfolio evaluation, and project planning and execution. Works both independently and in partnership with project teams and stakeholders across the organization, influencing outcomes and coordinating approved initiatives without direct people leadership. The role is non-managerial, exercising delegated decision-making authority within established guidelines, and focuses on advancing and implementing approved strategic priorities and modernization initiatives.

What you'll be responsible for:
  • Explore what's next in learning:Conduct environmental scans, benchmarking, and research on emerging learning trends, technologies, methodologies, and delivery models to identify opportunities for ACSA.
  • Turn research into recommendations:Analyze learner outcomes, stakeholder feedback, industry insights, and program performance to develop evidence-based recommendations, business cases, and implementation plans.
  • Help shape the learning portfolio:Develop evaluation frameworks and portfolio planning approaches that identify gaps, opportunities, and priorities for future learning investments and enhancements.
  • Lead approved modernization initiatives:Take approved learning modernization projects from planning through implementation, coordinating timelines, stakeholders, deliverables, risks, and outcomes.
  • Bring the learner perspective forward:Work cross-departmentally to understand current and emerging learning needs and translate those insights into learning opportunities and recommendations.
  • Bring people together:Facilitate learning-focused discussions, consultations, and working groups that support evidence-based decisions and alignment across teams.
  • Champion modern learning practices:Provide subject matter expertise in adult learning, modern learning methodologies, and learner experience to support continuous improvement of ACSA's education portfolio.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring:

You bring a strong foundation in adult learning and modern learning practices, along with the curiosity and strategic thinking to explore how learning can continue to evolve. You’re comfortable looking at research, data, technology, and learner needs, then turning those insights into practical recommendations and initiatives.

  • Education:
    • Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in adult education, instructional design, organizational learning, educational technology, or a related field.
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or an accredited equivalent is considered an asset.
    • Change management certification is considered an asset.
    • Knowledge of National Construction Safety Officer or National Health and Safety Administrator (NCSO/NHSA) designation or equivalent.
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience:
    • 5+years of progressive experience in adult learning, learning strategy, instructional design, organizational learning or related field.
  • Required skills and abilities:
    • Demonstrated proficiency in applying adult learning principles, learning technologies, and instructional methodologies to support effective learning outcomes.
    • Strong research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to interpret information, identify trends, and make evidence-based recommendations.
    • Strong change management capability, with demonstrated experience supporting adoption and navigating stakeholder impacts, readiness, and resistance when introducing new approaches, technologies, or ways of working.
    • Demonstrated curiosity and continuous learning mindset, with the ability to identify emerging trends and assess their relevance and potential application within an organizational learning environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic initiatives and influence outcomes without direct authority.
    • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across diverse groups.
    • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including preparing clear reports, presentations and stakeholder communications.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and implement projects involving multiple stakeholders, priorities, and deliverables.
    • Excellent judgment, professionalism and diplomacy when managing sensitive relationships and situations.
Logistics
  • This position requires a 40-hour work week.
  • Occasional travel within Alberta, as well as evening or weekend work, may be required for business events and stakeholder meetings.
  • This role is eligible for ACSA’s hybrid work model (Edmonton office) after one month.
  • Reporting to the Director, Learning & Development.
Salary:

Starting at $88,000, depending on experience and qualifications
