Job summary

Overview

Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s largest and most successful law firms, has an opening for a Learning & Development Coordinator to join our Calgary office. The Learning & Development Coordinator supports the Professional Development & Learning team in the planning, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of learning programs and initiatives in the Calgary office and across the firm. The successful candidate will contribute to all aspects of the learning cycle, including needs analysis, program planning, instructional support, learning platform administration, program logistics, facilitation, reporting, and the development of learner resources to support engagement and adoption.

Responsibilities
  • Support Professional Development & Learning projects and initiatives delivery from planning through implementation for legal professionals and business services staff, including coordination and execution of development initiatives.
  • Administration of Learning Management System (LMS) and other learning platforms (e.g., cybersecurity training systems).
  • Tracking and reporting on training completion, participation, engagement, and performance metrics, including post-training analysis to assess effectiveness and ROI.
  • Coordinating all logistics for in-person and virtual training sessions and events, including pre- and post-delivery activities.
  • Assisting with the development of e-learning content using tools such as Captivate, Camtasia, and other authoring platforms to support a blended learning approach.
  • Supporting the delivery and facilitation of in-class and virtual training (e.g., new hire orientation, software rollouts, refresher sessions, and soft skills programs).
  • Developing supporting learning materials (e.g., reference guides, handouts, FAQs) to enhance user adoption and learner experience.
  • Providing deskside coaching and floor support for firm‑wide rollouts, training programs, and key initiatives.
  • Assisting with the continuous professional development (CPD) accreditation of internal and client programs, including issuing certificates of attendance and maintaining accurate records for Law Society reporting.
  • Incorporating innovative approaches to learning, including digital tools, AI‑enabled solutions, and modern learning methodologies.
Education & Experience
  • College or bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum of two years of experience in the development, facilitation, and delivery of training in a blended learning environment, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a legal or professional services environment.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Applies sound judgment when interpreting learning needs, policies, and procedures.
  • Client‑service oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Creative and adaptable, with a willingness to contribute ideas and support change initiatives.
  • Passion for learning and continuous development.
  • Experience with e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Adobe Captivate, Camtasia).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (advanced).
