Job summary

Velan Studios seeks a Lead VFX Artist to shape our visual language and mentor the VFX team across projects. Collaborate with Art Directors, engineers, and designers to craft cinematic, performant effects.

We value 10+ years of real-time VFX, a strong portfolio, and the ability to push technical boundaries on console/PC platforms. Hybrid/onsite in Toronto with competitive CAD salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of real-time VFX on console/PC.
• Strong portfolio of shipped games.
• Degree or equivalent in a related field is desirable.
• Ability to create from your own ideas, not just from pre-existing concept art.
• Demonstrated strength in custom texture and shader creation.
• High proficiency with DCC tools (Photoshop, Substance Designer, EmberGen, Maya, Blender, Houdini).

Responsibilities

• Lead the VFX team and raise the bar for visual effects.
• Collaborate with Art Director and leads to define vfx look and style.
• Provide time estimates and resource planning for vfx tasks.
• Lead team reviews and maintain a cohesive vision with high polish.
• Create in-engine benchmarks and gather references to guide the project.
