Job summary

Aker Solutions in St. John's, NL, seeks a Lead Piping Designer to join our onshore Engineering group. You will drive piping layout, support design, and PDMS/E3D integration, mentoring junior designers and coordinating with Project Engineers to ensure timely, cost-effective deliverables.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in brownfield environments and strong Aveva E3D CAD capabilities, with a passion for improving quality and design standards across the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• 10+ years experience in brownfield industrial environments.
• Advanced knowledge of CAD software and Aveva E3D.
• Solid knowledge of standard methods and practices used in design offices.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with Piping Engineering Lead on piping design matters, including layout, routings, pipe supports and placement for metallic and non-metallic systems.
• Support E3D Administrator on design concepts and new technologies for PDMS/E3D.
• Ensure robust checking processes are applied to high-quality engineering deliverables.
• Lead continuous improvement in piping design to lower costs and improve quality.
• Analyze proposed changes for fit/interference and recommend solutions or alternatives.
• Modify drawings and coordinate with engineers to resolve issues.
• Coach and develop less experienced designers to build capacity.
• Develop and monitor work plans and resources to ensure on-time deliveries and manage costs.
• Lead client interface on design and layout matters with Project Engineers and client counterparts.
• Provide input to project scope, cost and schedule issues and recovery options.

Our team in St. John's, NL is seeking Lead Piping Designer to support our onshore Engineering group!

What will you be doing?

• Proactively liaise and support the Piping Engineering Lead on technical matters related to piping design as part of overall solution development and professionally handle project issues as they arise, with minimal loss of productivity. This includes, but is not limited to, piping layout considerations, routings, pipe support design, and placement for both metallic and non-metallic piping systems.
• Provide support to the E3D Administrator on design concepts, new technologies, and solutions to be incorporated into PDMS/E3D.
• In partnership with the Piping Engineering Lead, ensure continued application of a robust checking process within the discipline to ensure high-quality engineering deliverables.
• Take a leadership role in continuous improvement related to piping design including developing and recommending improvements in design standards to lower costs and improve quality.
• Analyze the effect of proposed changes for proper fit and/or interference problems and recommend possible solutions or alternate construction.
• Modify drawings as required and confer with engineers to resolve issues.
• Coach and support the technical development of less experienced designers to develop overall capacity.
• Develop and monitor work plan and resources to ensure on time deliveries and manage costs for client.
• Take a leadership role in client interface on matters related to design and layout.
• Provide support and input to Project Engineers and client counterparts regarding project scope, cost and schedule issues and / or recovery options.

We Think You Should Have

• A minimum of 10 years' experience, ideally within a brownfield industrial environment.
• Advanced knowledge and experienced with computer-aided design software and techniques including Aveva E3D.
• Solid knowledge of standard methods and practices used for engineering design offices.
