Job summary

The Ottawa Senators are seeking a part-time Lead On-Ice Instructor to run safe, engaging on-ice sessions for participants in Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs (OSHP) at Sensplex facilities.

You will collaborate with the Head of Hockey Development and Head Instructors to deliver on-ice programming, provide instruction, correct technique, and offer feedback on ice-times and programs. Flexibility for evenings and weeknights is required.

Qualifications

  • Previous hockey/skating experience at a high level.
  • Previous coaching/instructional experience.
  • Comfortable and enjoy working with children of all ages.
  • Strong teaching skills.
  • Team player, professional demeanor and strong work ethic.
  • Able to work flexible hours; nights weekly is an asset.
  • NCCP/Hockey Canada Coaching Certification is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Run safe, enjoyable on-ice sessions for participants.
  • Follow OSHP Hockey Development Team policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Head of Hockey Development and Head Instructors to deliver on-ice programming and teaching points.
  • Provide error-detection, correction, and instruction to participants.
  • Assist with preparation and supervision of other on-ice instructors.
  • Provide feedback on ice-times and programs to the OSHP Hockey Development Team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by OSHP Hockey Development Team.

Job description

The Opportunity

The part-time Lead On-Ice Instructor role is responsible for running safe, enjoyable, and productive on-ice sessions to the participants in Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs (OSHP) at all Sensplex facilities.

Number of vacancies: 1 – This is a newly created position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for ensuring safe and enjoyable development sessions for participants
  • Responsible for following policies and procedures set out by OSHP Hockey Development Team
  • Work with Head of Hockey Development and Head Hockey Instructors to deliver on-ice programming and key themes & teaching points
  • Delivering error-detection, correction, and instruction to program participants
  • Assist with preparation and supervision of other on-ice instructors
  • Provide feedback to OSHP Hockey Development Team on ice-times and programs
  • Other duties as assigned by OSHP Hockey Development Team
Health & Safety Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Responsible for ensuring that all areas covered by Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) are adhered to, specifically:

  • Working in compliance with the provisions of the OHSA, regulations and internal policies and procedures
  • Using or wearing protective equipment, devises or clothing when required
  • Reporting any missing or defective equipment or protective device which could endanger himself or herself or another team member
  • Reporting any contravention of the OHSA, regulations or SSE policies and procedures
Training

Responsible for completing on-line training modules as required, including, but not limited to:

  • Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability - Customer Service Standards Training
  • IASR: Information and Communications Standards
  • Understanding Human Rights Training
  • Ontario Worker Health & Safety Awareness
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System
  • Violence and Harassment in the Workplace

May also be required to attend on-site training sessions as scheduled.

Compensation

$27.45 – $30.45 per hour, based on experience
