Job summary

The Walt Disney Company in Vancouver seeks a Lead Motion Editor (Lead Motion Capture Animator) to join the ILM Vancouver team at the Coal Harbour studio. The role focuses on retargeting and editing body motion from mocap performances to high-quality standards, with strong knowledge of motion blending.

You will lead the discipline, develop new workflows, mentor junior members, and collaborate with the Global Moedit Supervisor to keep the department running smoothly.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Visualisation, or Computer Animation or equivalent experience.
• Experience using MotionBuilder, Blender, Nuance and/or Maya with motion-captured performances.
• Proven experience in high-end film VFX with an up-to-date showreel.

Responsibilities

• Transfer motion from a Hierarchy to another (Retargeting) independently and proficiently.
• Improve/adjust actor performances non-destructively for highest quality.
• Adjust interactions between characters/props/environment/terrain.
• Enhance performance with fingers/toe/tail animation and posture/gesture/weight.
• Blend motions for fluid, believable transitions between clips.
• Mentor junior team members; troubleshoot and teach techniques.
• Lead projects and assist with technical requests.
• Handle dailies when supervisor is unavailable.
