Job summary

TPD Workforce Solutions is helping a growing manufacturer of custom mining and industrial equipment find a Lead Mechatronics Engineer to establish and lead the controls discipline, set standards, and guide projects from concept through commissioning.

You will design, review, seal electrical control systems and documents, develop PLC/HMI apps on Siemens, Rockwell/AB, IQAN, ensure CSA/CEC/UL compliance, and mentor junior engineers while remaining hands-on.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering.
  • P.Eng designation in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario.
  • At least five years of industrial controls and automation engineering experience.
  • Strong experience with PLC programming and HMI development.
  • Familiarity with CSA, CEC, UL, NFPA, IEC machinery safety standards.
  • Experience leading FAT, SAT and equipment commissioning.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead the company’s controls engineering discipline, including standards and best practices.
  • Design, review, approve, and seal electrical control systems and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop, review, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI applications on major platforms.
  • Ensure design compliance with applicable standards and customer requirements.
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing and support Site Acceptance Testing and commissioning.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and technologists.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity where you will influence engineering standards, guide projects from concept through commissioning, and help shape the future of the controls team.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
  • Establish and lead the company’s controls engineering discipline, including standards, templates, and best practices
  • Design, review, approve, and seal electrical control systems, schematics, wiring diagrams, and related engineering documents
  • Develop, review, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI applications using Siemens, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, IQAN, and other automation platforms
  • Ensure designs comply with CSA, CEC, UL, NFPA, IEC, machinery safety, and customer requirements
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing and support Site Acceptance Testing, equipment commissioning, and customer start-up
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, designers, and technologists
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE:
  • A bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • A P.Eng. designation in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario, with the ability to review, approve, and seal engineering documents
  • At least five years of industrial controls and automation engineering experience
  • Strong experience with PLC programming, HMI development, electrical controls, VFDs, and industrial automation systems
  • Knowledge of applicable CSA, CEC, UL, NFPA, IEC, and machinery safety standards
  • Strong engineering judgment, leadership abilities, and experience supporting FAT, SAT, and equipment commissioning
