Lycopodium is currently recruiting for a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing Engineering team in Vancouver, BC.

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, you are accountable for managing and directing the multi-discipline engineering/drafting teams to produce outputs that are fit for purpose, in alignment with project requirements, and produced in a timely and cost-effective manner.

The tasks you'll perform:

  1. Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving design issues.
  2. Design approval of drawings, standards, specifications, and procedures.
  3. Monitor the progress and performance of the project design team and provide feedback and support where necessary.
  4. Preparation of man-hour budgets and design schedules for Study/EPCM estimates.
  5. Facilitate design reviews through the development stages of the project design.
  6. Assist with pre-commissioning activities and manage field engineering.
  7. Manage subordinates’ review of vendor certified documentation (drawings, data sheets, manuals, lube lists, etc.) and the dissemination of vendor information to discipline engineers/drafting resources for interface checking.
  8. Management of and responsibility for multi-discipline design and drafting resources assigned to allocated tasks to achieve agreed deliverable dates and man-hour budgets.
  9. Follow and implement all relevant Company standards and procedures and ensure design drawings comply with all relevant Australian and International Standards.
  10. Compile project reporting requirements in accordance with Company and Client standards to a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
  11. Contribute to engineers in training and professional development by providing consistent mentoring and identifying avenues of development.
  12. Provide technical support and input to proposals, customer presentations, and other marketing, business development activities. Prepare design scope, budget, and schedule for written proposals.
  13. Develop and contribute to the delivery of improvement initiatives which support business priorities for continuous improvement.
  14. Ensure a high level of communication is attained with all internal and external stakeholders.
  15. Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to the design team as required.
  16. Travel on an ad-hoc basis to suit the needs of the business and its operations.

The expertise you'll bring:

  1. Qualification in Engineering, or the equivalent.
  2. Minimum 15 years post-graduate experience in Mineral Processing or Metallurgical plant design.
  3. Intuitive leader with the ability to initiate, lead, and manage change in a complex environment.
  4. Provide mentoring and identify avenues of professional development and succession planning to personnel within your team.
  5. Capacity to evaluate work practices, implement systems, and suggest alternatives and refinements where necessary.
  6. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision whilst consistently producing a high quality of deliverables.
  7. Demonstrated ability to achieve consistently high standards within both budgetary and schedule constraints.
  8. High attention to detail and exceptional knowledge of engineering drawings.
  9. Solid technical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  10. Proficient understanding of business acumen with the ability to adapt to different business environments.
