Job summary

Government of Nova Scotia's Department of Natural Resources seeks a Senior Research and Planning Forester to lead forest research and planning programs delivering science-based knowledge and planning tools for sustainable forest management.

You will oversee a research group, provide expert advice to senior management and stakeholders, collaborate with universities and research institutes, and contribute to policy development and guidance documents across provincial forests and wildlife resources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Forestry with 8 years of related experience or Master’s in Forestry with 6 years of related experience.
  • Strong knowledge in forest mensuration and scientific methodology.
  • Expertise in Acadian and Boreal forest silvics; experience in forest management planning.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a forest research group and deliver research plans, projects, and tools for government and stakeholders.
  • Provide scientific/technical advice to senior management and stakeholders on policies and planning.
  • Represent the department on committees and collaborate with researchers to promote science-based decisions.
  • Publish scientific papers and reports related to projects and guidelines.
  • Develop strategic plans and policy documents guiding forest management decisions.
