City of Medicine Hat is seeking an Enterprise Risk and Internal Audit Specialist to lead the ERM program and support risk-based governance. You will partner with department leaders to identify, assess, and respond to risks while guiding internal audit activities and improving controls across the organization.

The role emphasizes collaboration, reporting to leadership and Council, and advancing a resilient risk culture in a dynamic municipal environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related field.
• Minimum five years in risk management or internal audit.
• CRM designation.
• CPA and/or CIA designation is an asset.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsabilités

• Lead the regular review and continuous improvement of the City's Enterprise Risk Management framework.
• Facilitate enterprise-wide risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting.
• Develop and maintain risk registers, heat maps, policies, procedures and KRIs.
• Partner with leaders to identify emerging risks and mitigation strategies.
• Monitor risk trends and prepare reports for leadership and Council.
• Establish risk appetite and tolerance aligned with objectives.
• Plan, coordinate and conduct internal audits of governance, risk, and controls.
• Identify control gaps and provide practical recommendations.
• Prepare audit reports with findings and root causes.
• Track management action plans for timely implementation.
• Provide advisory support on internal controls and process improvements.
• Collaborate to strengthen risk-aware culture and continuous improvements.
• Support corporate insurance, risk management and business continuity initiatives.
