Sunwing Vacations Group is seeking a Lead Developer IV, Front End to guide the team in designing, building, and delivering high-quality software aligned with business objectives.

You will influence technical direction, facilitate team success, and collaborate with Development and IT to ensure projects meet Sunwing standards and timelines. Hybrid work arrangements support work-life balance.

• Strong problem solving ability within areas of familiarity, and ability to grasp concepts quickly in areas not familiar.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-quality front-end code and set a high standard for the team.
• Explain, analyze, and map functional and technical requirements to code.
• Collaborate with design and architecture teams to drive technical design and solutions.
• Create prototypes, analyze existing code, and research external sources.
• Produce robust, scalable, and maintainable code with focus on performance.
• Lead API design discussions and work with a micro-services-oriented architecture.
• Contribute to database design concepts, normalization, and performance tuning.
• Coordinate with third parties for integration work and documentation.
• Participate in Scrum ceremonies and drive processes when needed.
• Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Assist testing and share knowledge with QA.
• Contribute to documentation and best practices.

Job description

The Opportunity:

We're looking for a Lead Developer IV, Front End to join the team. You will be responsible for responsible for developing, designing, and delivering quality software to meet business objectives.

You will be an authoritative source on everything software-oriented, be a major player in key initiatives, and work closely with the Development and IT teams to ensure mutual and collaborative success. As a Lead, you are expected to spend the majority of your time facilitating and ensuring the success of the team, rather than always being hands-on in the code.

What You’ll Do:

• Design and Implement code, setting a very high standard for the team
• Be comfortable explaining, analyzing, and understanding Functional and Technical Requirements, and how it maps to coding
• Work closely with technical leaders in the Design process of Technical Requirements and Solutions, and drive certain areas in the Design
• Create prototypes, draw diagrams, analyze existing code, and research external sources
• Produce exceptional quality code which has minimal defects, is robust, extensible (future proof), and has some focus into performance considerations (scalability)
• Able to drive API design when called upon, and comfortable with a Micro-services-oriented Architecture
• Have a strong knowledge in Database concepts and Database table design, including normalization patterns and performance tuning
• Be comfortable working with external third parties on integration work, including interactions, coding, and consuming/(and potentially questioning) solutions and documentation
• Understand, follow, and provide feedback/identify areas of improvement in the Sunwing SDLC practices
• Participate in Team Scrum activities such as Sprint planning, Sprint review and Sprint retrospective, and lead/drive when necessary to assist the processes
• Responsible for Code reviews and providing feedback when Code is not correct or up to standards
• Assist testing processes and provide knowledge sharing with QA team
• Take initiative in Software documentation and assisting others in Documentation writing
• Take Initiative whenever something appears to “not be up to par”
• Know inside and out the Shared Technical guidelines for Best Practices, and provide feedback on process and practice where it can be improved
• Ensure and uphold coding standards and Best Practices
• Have a solid understanding and knowledge of the larger Sunwing technology stack (breadth and depth)
• Be comfortable interacting, communicating, and sharing ideas with both technical and non-technical minded personnel
• Keep up with technology and technology trends, and be able to work with Architecture to come up with new ways of solving problems
• Provide assistance in areas of Support interacting with areas the Developer is familiar with, and potentially areas beyond (potentially after normal working hours)
• Be able to quickly troubleshoot problems in the areas the Developer is familiar with, and works around (i.e. the larger group’s software portfolio), including the infrastructure landscape
• Identify issues, develop, and maintain processes that address and resolve them and communicate/alert stakeholders, as needed.
• Be extremely comfortable with all areas within the Technology and Infrastructure stack, and know the right questions to ask to isolate and resolve a problem, and come up with logical plans for resolution
• Ensure that the Team is able to deliver on their work, and assist in areas where they are facing issues or hardships

• Being a key driver in impactful outputs and major initiatives is expected, working with Senior IT leaders
