Job summary

A leading global financial institution engages Akkodis Canada to modernize its Capital Markets data platform. You will design, optimize SQL Server databases, lead performance tuning, and drive ETL/data warehousing efforts in a hybrid Montreal environment.

As the database SME, you will partner with software, AI, and analytics teams to deliver scalable data solutions, ensure security/compliance, and contribute to modernization plans.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience with data warehousing concepts and enterprise reporting environments.
• Strong knowledge of T-SQL, stored procedures, and query optimization.
• Exposure to cloud database solutions (AWS/Azure).
• Experience with ETL development using SSIS.

Working Model: Hybrid - up to 4 days per week in office (**currently only in 2 days per week)

Compensation: $130,000 - $155,000 per annum plus bonus and benefits

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Lead Database Developer to play a key role in designing, optimizing, and evolving the data foundation of a mission-critical Capital Markets platform.

This individual will serve as the team's database subject matter expert, driving database architecture, performance tuning, ETL development, cloud migration initiatives, and data modelling best practices.

The successful candidate will work closely with software developers, AI engineers, business analysts, project managers, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions that support complex financial workflows and real-time analytics.

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases supporting mission-critical business applications
• Create and maintain complex stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and database objects
• Lead database performance tuning efforts through indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and query optimization
• Design scalable data models that support transactional processing, analytics, reporting, and audit requirements
• Develop and enhance ETL processes and data integration solutions utilizing SSIS and related technologies
• Partner with software development teams to deliver robust, data-driven application solutions
• Design and implement data warehousing and reporting solutions
• Support cloud database initiatives across AWS and Azure environments
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data standards, governance practices, and architecture principles
• Troubleshoot production issues and drive root cause analysis for complex database-related challenges
• Implement high-availability, disaster recovery, backup, and security best practices
• Evaluate and implement modern database technologies, including caching and in-memory data solutions
• Support initiatives involving AI, document processing, and advanced analytics
• Mentor junior team members and provide technical leadership across database-related projects
• Contribute to long-term modernization and platform transformation efforts

What You Bring

Must-Have Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server
• Strong expertise in database design, data modelling, and relational database architecture
• Advanced knowledge of T-SQL development, stored procedures, and query optimization
• Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and ETL development
• Strong understanding of indexing, execution plans, performance tuning, and troubleshooting techniques
• Hands-on experience with data warehousing concepts and enterprise reporting environments
• Experience supporting high-volume transactional systems in complex enterprise environments
• Exposure to cloud database solutions within AWS and/or Azure
• Strong understanding of data governance, security, auditability, and compliance requirements
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Experience within Capital Markets, Banking, Financial Services, FinTech, or Payments environments
• Knowledge of securitization, structured finance, risk reporting, or financial data models
• Experience with NoSQL database technologies such as Elasticsearch
• Exposure to in-memory databases, caching technologies, Redis, or SingleStore
• Experience supporting AI, machine learning, analytics, or document processing initiatives
• SQL Server, Azure, AWS, or cloud-related certifications
• Previous experience in a technical leadership or lead developer capacity
