Job summary

Akkodis is seeking a Data Developer in Toronto for a 12-month contract to design and build scalable data platforms supporting trading, risk, and analytics in a capital markets setting.

You will develop real-time data pipelines, optimize Spark workloads, and collaborate with data scientists and risk stakeholders to deliver enterprise-grade data solutions in a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• At least 4+ years of Data development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Scala, Apache Spark, and Python.
• Experience with Hadoop and related big data technologies.
• Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases and data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop distributed data processing solutions using Scala, Python, and Spark.
• Build and maintain large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines.
• Support real-time processing platforms built on Scala, Spark, and Akka.
• Develop and maintain ETL processes that integrate data from multiple sources.
• Optimize Spark applications for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and availability via testing, monitoring, and automation.
• Work with DevOps to support CI/CD and cloud deployments.

About the Engagement

Akkodis is partnering with a leading Bank and Capital Markets organization to engage an experienced Data Developer to support the XVA & CCR Data Development Team in Toronto.

This role is focused on designing, building, and maintaining scalable data platforms and distributed processing solutions that support critical trading, risk, and analytics functions. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing high-performance data pipelines, real-time processing capabilities, and enterprise data solutions within a complex Capital Markets environment.

Working closely with development teams, quantitative analysts, risk stakeholders, and platform engineering groups, you will help deliver robust, reliable, and scalable data products that power business-critical applications and analytics.

Services to be Provided

• Design and develop distributed data processing solutions using Scala, Python, and Apache Spark
• Build and maintain large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines
• Support and enhance real-time processing platforms built on Scala, Spark, and Akka
• Develop and maintain ETL processes that integrate data from multiple sources across the enterprise
• Optimize Spark applications for performance, scalability, and reliability
• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and availability through testing, monitoring, and automation
• Work with DevOps teams to support CI/CD processes and cloud-based deployments
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices
• Support the ongoing evolution of data platform architecture and engineering capabilities
• At least 4+ years of Data development experience
• Strong hands‑on experience with Scala, Apache Spark, and Python
• Advanced SQL development skills
• Experience building and supporting enterprise‑scale ETL and data pipeline solutions
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and large‑scale data processing architectures
• Experience with Hadoop and related big data technologies
• Hands‑on experience with the Akka framework
• Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases
• Understanding of REST and gRPC communication protocols
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively both independently and in collaborative team environments

Additional Skills in some of the Following Areas would be a Plus:

• Experience with Kafka or Confluent
• Experience with Hive and HBase
• Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• Experience with C#, particularly for Excel add‑in development
• Familiarity with Databricks, ADLS, BigQuery, Dremio, or similar data platforms
• Experience with event‑driven architectures and real‑time analytics
• Understanding of data governance, security, and platform operational best practices
• Exposure to machine learning and data science workflows

Ideal Background

• We are particularly interested in candidates with strong Scala, Akka, and Spark expertise, and a proven track record of building and supporting large‑scale distributed data platforms.
• Previous experience within Capital Markets, including exposure to trading, risk, XVA, or Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) data environments, is considered a significant asset.
