Job description

Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely. We are transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.

Summary: The Lead Content Licensing Specialist owns and grows Clio's portfolio of third‑party content licensing partners. This spans publishers, courts, government bodies, and data partners across the US and international markets. The content these partners supply feeds directly into Clio's primary content infrastructure and Vincent AI. This role runs on two tracks at once. First, it manages the health of Clio's existing partner portfolio: renewals, compliance, and the relationships behind each agreement. Second, it finds and closes new licensing deals that fill gaps in Clio's content coverage by practice area or jurisdiction. This role sits at the point where legal content, contract terms, and commercial relationships meet. It needs someone who can read a licensing agreement closely, negotiate its terms, and still hold a long‑term relationship with the partner on the other side of the table.

What You'll Do
  1. Publisher & Partner Relationship Management Act as the main point of contact for a large global portfolio of content publishers and licensing partners. Build long‑term relationships with institutions, courts, government bodies, and commercial publishers. Act as a trusted account owner, not just a contract administrator. Track agreement terms, renewal timelines, and compliance obligations across the full portfolio. Spot and fix issues early, before they put content supply or partner relationships at risk.
  2. Agreement Renewal & Compliance Own the renewal cycle for licensing agreements across US and international markets, and protect continuity of content supply through each renewal. Monitor each partner's compliance obligations, and flag risk before it becomes a gap in coverage.
  3. Business Development & Content Gap Filling Find and pursue new licensing deals that close practice‑area or jurisdictional gaps in Clio's content library. Run initial outreach and scoping on new partnerships, and hand off strategic or high‑value deals to commercial or senior leadership at the right point. Work with Content and Product teams to rank licensing targets against the platform roadmap and content strategy.
  4. Partner Negotiation and Deal Closure Negotiate contractual, financial, technical, and strategic terms with global legal publishers, courts, and data partners. Identify, evaluate, and close licensing deals that add real value to Clio's primary and secondary legal content. Manage multiple deals and renewals at once, and keep every regulatory or contractual deadline on track.
  5. Cross‑Functional Collaboration Partner with the Content & Editorial team to make sure licensed content fits well with Clio's primary content infrastructure. Work with business unit commercial teams, including enterprise and regional leads, on accounts where licensing and commercial relationships overlap. Coordinate with Product and Legal on licensing terms, technical ingestion requirements, and content metadata standards. Give input on licensing strategy as the function grows and takes formal shape inside the product organization.
What you may have
  1. 5+ years in content licensing, publishing rights, or partnership management, ideally with exposure to legal publishing or legal data.
  2. Proven work closing multi‑stakeholder or high‑value international content and software licensing agreements.
  3. Experience managing a portfolio of external partners across more than one market at once.
  4. Strong grounding in reading and analyzing complex legal documents, copyright frameworks, and digital distribution rights.
  5. Negotiation skills that hold up across financial, technical, and strategic terms with senior external stakeholders.
  6. Clear written and verbal communication, strong enough to manage relationships with external executive teams and internal stakeholders alike.
  7. Project management skills that hold multiple high‑impact deals and renewals on track at the same time, with every contractual deadline tracked.
