Job summary

Compass Group Canada is seeking a dedicated catering associate to manage daily catering operations in Ottawa. You will assist with beverage preparation, buffet setup, and guest service during events, ensuring timely, courteous service and adherence to hygiene standards.

Responsibilities include temperature control, inventory checks, and collaboration with team members to deliver exceptional experiences for all guests. Candidates should be able to work flexible hours in a fast-paced environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include The Following.

Please note: Other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Carefully prepares beverages according to customer specifications, including but not limited to coffee, tea, and alcoholic beverages.
  • Sets up buffets and food displays according to BEO requirements.
  • Serves guests during all plated meals, including use of large oval and beverage trays.
  • Completes assigned side duties in a timely and efficient manner; side duties may include but are not limited to: polishing silverware, polishing glassware, organizing linen rooms, assisting with room sets as required, counting inventory of smallware.
  • Delivers food to buffets or meeting rooms as required by BEOs.
  • Follows standard portioning of alcoholic beverages and uses SmartServe policies to prevent the over-serving of guests.
  • Follows all Optimum Service Training techniques to ensure exceptional customer service during all events.
  • Acts with purpose and intention – uses effective time management skills.
  • Interacts with customers and resolves customer complaints politely and promptly.
  • Maintains pantry par levels and follows proper procedures for restocking and reporting consumption.
  • Checks all items within the assign pantry for expiration weekly and removed items that are past their best before date; follows FIFO and FEFO procedures at all times.
  • Completes fridge/freezer temperature checks and other HSQA logs as assigned by supervisor.
  • Replenishes non-alcoholic beverages and general supplies while maintaining cleanliness of service areas.
  • Must interact with co-workers in order to ensure compliance with company service standards, and company inventory and cash control procedures.
  • Follows all uniform and jewelry policies at all times.
  • Must follow all health and safety and quality assurance company policies at all times.
  • Must complete 24/7 training with in one month of start date, and annually thereafter.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Represents Company in a courteous, efficient, and friendly manner in all customer and employee interactions.
  • Responsible for completion of CGC 24/7 or MyLearning training in timely manner. Know, understand and comply with all relevant operational standards of the unit and procedures that are current. Oversee and/or train other staff members
  • Responsible for cash handling Manage the cash flow, bank deposits and cash procedures
  • Performs pre-preparation and preparation tasks (measuring, restocking supplies, and set up of unit) assigned by Manager and prepares product.
  • Ensures safe and sanitary practices adhered to in accordance with company and facility policies. Ensures that all food served in the right condition, at the right temperature and at the right time.
  • Ensures that enough products have been prepared for the day. Replenishes supplies as needed
  • Maintains portion control in accordance with the recipe standard.
  • Answers all guests’ inquiries and concerns immediately.
  • Always maintains proper service appearance and etiquette. Serve customers quickly and courteously using proper service techniques.
  • Maintains established food rotations in all areas (stock room, fridge, freezer) in order to minimize spoilage and waste.
  • Reports damaged and/or inoperable equipment and fixtures to unit manager.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned by management. Assist anywhere else in the unit as needed.
  • Ability to interact with customers to assure customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers to assure compliance with company service standards, and company inventory and property control procedures.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to perform assigned tasks within time frames established for the job.
  • Responsible for following HACCP/QA standards. Hot and cold temp logs, cleaning logs
  • Follows principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment. Maintains all work areas to ensure that they are clean and orderly. Responsible for cleaning all equipment and following cleaning schedule.
  • Required to perform cleaning duties. Responsible for the cleaning of own Station.
  • Responsible for receiving and stocking of deliveries in their proper place in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for date labeling all the products in the storage room and store
  • Ensures that everyone follows Compass Group Canada Quality Assurance Policies and procedures as well and Public Health Policies on food handling, cleaning and sanitation at all times.
  • Responsible for opening and/or closing checklist, as well as necessary reports
  • Responsible for daily paperwork, weekly inventories, stocking and other tracking reports
  • Oversee same in employees of said unit
