Job summary

Affir is seeking a senior backend software engineer to build the lifecycle-orchestrator service at the heart of multiple connected systems. You will modernize legacy code and deliver availability improvements through simplification and isolation.

You will design for scale to hundreds of thousands of merchants worldwide, align cross-team scope, and mentor peers while advancing the long-term technical vision.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a backend software engineer.
• Proficiency with Domain-Driven Design and distributed systems.
• Experience with API design (HTTP and RPC) and data modeling.
• Strong communication, including written ADRs and technical specs.
• Experience with AWS, gRPC, Snowflake, Kotlin, Python, MySQL, Kubernetes; Java/Kotlin helpful.
• Experience with monitoring/alerting tools such as Sentry, Rollbar, Chronosphere, Kibana.

Responsibilities

• Design & expand the backbone of our platform to scale to hundreds of thousands of merchants from all around the world.
• Design and align the scope of work with other teams to deliver cross-team projects.
• Mentor other engineers to ensure their development & growth.
• Partner with Engineering Manager and Team Lead to drive and execute the long-term vision of the team.
• Execute technical strategy for broad or complex requirements with insightful and forward-looking approaches.
• Utilize agentic development tools to automate parts of the development process.
• Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes throughout the organization.
