Position Information

The Privacy Lead, Health Information System and Information and Privacy Office (Lead), is committed to protecting the privacy and the confidentiality and security of all personal health information and personal information entrusted to the organization. As a member of the Atlas Alliance governance structure and the Information and Privacy Office (IPO) team, the Lead supports organizational compliance with applicable legislation, including the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004 and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

The Lead is responsible for the investigating privacy breaches, responding to regulatory complaints, delivering staff training and education, conducting privacy impact assessments, and overseeing the administration of freedom of information requests and related obligations.

The Lead advances departmental objectives by planning, coordinating, and evaluating privacy and access‑related activities, managing staff, and providing leadership on privacy, freedom of information, and information governance matters in a complex healthcare environment.

The Lead delivers privacy and access services in a complex healthcare environment by promoting best practices and standards and providing formal and informal analysis and guidance with a focus on continuous quality improvement.

The Lead must understand complex program, systems, and organizational relationships, communicate requirements effectively to a broad range of stakeholders, and ensure that privacy, access and information governance risks are appropriately mitigated or accepted.

The Lead interacts extensively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including: project managers and team members; funders and consultants; government and regulatory bodies; other healthcare organizations; privacy professionals, clinical users; patients and clients, and members of the public. Strong leadership skills are required to build trust, foster collaboration, and achieve objectives through effective partnership with internal and external teams.

Salary Range

$107,033.55 - $130,215.15/Annual

What you will bring
  • Four (4)-year undergraduate degree in Health Informatics, Health Administration, Business, Law, Computer Science or related discipline;
  • Membership in a privacy or security association (e.g. International Association of Privacy Professionals);
  • Five (5) years of experience in policy development and application of strategic planning principles;
  • Two (2) years of project leadership or management experience;
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable provincial legislation and its application including PHIPA, FIPPA;
  • Extensive knowledge of Information and privacy practices, procedures, relevant jurisprudence, and hospital policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of the healthcare environment and an understanding of intergovernmental relations and accreditation standards;
  • Ability to set priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job; responsibilities, prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner;
  • Ability to perform Privacy Impact Assessment on projects;
  • Ability to work in a self‑directed and independent manner;
  • Ability to plan and manage all administrative aspects and office demands;
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction;
  • Ability to anticipate others' needs and proactively act upon this knowledge;
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills;
  • Strong sense of tact, diplomacy, maturity and professionalism; and
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships and build collaborative partnerships with colleagues at all levels within the organization as well as with external stakeholders.
