Overview:
Sony Imageworks Vancouver is seeking Layout Artists (Final & Rough)!

Responsibilities:

1. Translates storyboards, sketches, and verbal instructions into a 3D sequence of shots.
2. Determines camera composition, angles, and movement.
3. Establishes set and background geometry.
4. Creates basic blocking for all characters and props, along with temp elements such as lighting, crowds, and effects.
5. Creates sequences of shots that convey the storyline, ensuring the vision of the Director and Layout Supervisor are resolved.
6. May create rough pre-visualization models, environments, and effects to facilitate animation.
7. Accountable for meeting schedules and show deadlines, participates in dailies, rounds, and team reviews of work in progress.
8. Interacts with clients, production, supervisors, and team/peers to problem solve and share information related to show/assigned tasks.
9. Must be able to decipher as well as follow through on shot turnovers, dailies, briefings/notes, and feedback, providing innovative solutions, often with live-action sensibilities and contributing ideas that elevate the creative direction to the screen.
10. Candidates should be able to work efficiently as part of a team or independently to determine various design solutions.

Qualifications:

1. Able to create layout solutions for multiple types of stories and actions.
2. Knowledge of applicable software packages including Unreal Engine 5.x is desired, with Maya knowledge required.
3. Experience with motion capture and virtual camera technologies is a plus.
4. Strong knowledge of camera composition, lenses, and cinematographic principles is essential.
5. High attention to detail and good organization skills.
6. Ability to solve problems within a production pipeline.
7. Most desired: 2-year diploma or 1-year certificate; however, a minimal requirement of 2-3 years of relevant experience may be accepted.

Compensation:

1. The anticipated base salary for an Associate position is $26.44 to $36.32/hr.
2. For an Intermediate position, the salary is $32.02 to $43.99/hr.
3. Benefits are per company policy: which include healthcare, tuition reimbursement, RRSPs, Sick and Vacation leave, standard increases as applicable.
4. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including, without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and, if applicable, the location of the position.
