We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Property Adjuster with a deep understanding of builder’s risk claims.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in managing complex personal lines and commercial construction claims, with an in-depth knowledge of builders risk policies and coverage specifics. The adjustment will be conducted efficiently and effectively to control indemnity, spend, and expenses without compromising the delivery of superior customer service. This role is crucial to maintaining our commitment to excellence and client satisfaction.

What you’ll do:

  • Evaluate and manage personal lines and complex commercial claims including builder’s risk claims from initial report to final settlement
  • Conduct thorough investigations, including site inspections and interviews with relevant parties
  • Assess damages and determine coverage based on policy terms
  • Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and other experts to gather necessary documentation and evidence
  • Negotiate settlements with customers, ensuring fair and equitable resolutions
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all claims activities while keeping all parties current on claim progress
  • Stay updated on industry regulations and best practices to ensure compliance
  • Provide expert advice and support to policyholders throughout the claims process
  • Ensure all correspondence is completed in a timely and effective manner, including the creation of Critical Path Letters, Proof of Losses, and Reservation of Rights letters
  • Responsible for data accuracy and issuing payments to vendors, insureds, and experts
  • Recognize questionable claims, subrogation, and risk opportunities
  • Review case law to determine liability

What you’ll bring:

  • Thorough knowledge of the property insurance industry, specializing in complex commercial losses
  • At least 7-10 years of large loss adjusting experience (commercial and residential property claims)
  • Solid experience in directly handling complex losses in excess of $250,000, preferably in the multimillion-dollar range
  • Strong construction knowledge and digital literacy
  • Strong case law knowledge in both civil code and common law provinces
  • Thorough knowledge of various property coverage wordings
  • Some basic accounting skills
  • Superior communication and negotiation skills
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Knowledge of French and English is considered an asset for communication with customers, partners, and other Aviva teams across Canada
