Job Overview

We are looking to hire a Large Loss Commercial Property Claims Examiner to join our Complex Loss Team.

In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing claim files and overseeing claims handled by third‑party adjusters. Unlike the complex loss adjusters on site who gather information directly, the examiners provide direction and oversight over the execution of the required steps and customer service rendered by a Third Party Adjuster. You will ensure alignment with Aviva's best practices and handling procedures, managing the investigation, quantification, analysis, adjustment, and settlement of property claims. With a focus on quality and customer service, you will work with specialists and premier vendors to deliver an efficient process that controls indemnity spend and expenses without compromising outstanding service. The role is hybrid – the best of both worlds.

What You’ll Do

• Resource field work to be completed by IA by setting clear expectations and timelines and managing the file through to completion.
• Arrange market calls or work with various insurers on subscription claims.
• Prepare and present a complete file strategy, coverage analysis, disposition, and business case.
• Investigate claims by reviewing IA reports and specialists to acquire facts and information for analyzing the loss.
• Review and compile facts, policies, technical reports, analyze estimates, value of claim, and settle claims.
• Communicate claim adjustments via written reports to all parties based on the policy wording and circumstances surrounding the loss to resolve the claim.
• Provide outstanding service to our customers.
• Ensure data accuracy and issue payments to vendors, insureds, and specialists.
• Complete timely and effective correspondence, including the creation of Critical Path Letters, Proof of Losses, and Reservation of Rights letters.
• Recognize questionable claims, subrogation opportunities, and risk opportunities.

What You’ll Bring

• Minimum of 15+ years of experience in commercial property claims.
• Solid experience managing large and complex commercial property losses in excess of $5,000,000 consistently.
• Detailed knowledge of the property insurance industry and strong understanding of property insurance case law.
• Strong construction knowledge.
• Strong digital literacy.
• Detailed knowledge of a variety of property coverage wordings.
• Basic accounting skills.
• Outstanding communication and negotiation skills.
• Excellent report writing skills.
