GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Landscape Technician is will play an active role by performing regular on-site landscaping and groundskeeping tasks while also coordinating and overseeing the work of third-party landscape contractors. This dual role requires a balance of technical expertise, communication, and leadership to ensure the areas under our management are attractive, safe, and well-maintained.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Labor
- Monitoring and performing continuous tree and shrub maintenance to support the safety culture of the organization.
- Conduct regular site tours and identifying any areas that need pothole and minor curb repairs and actioning these items.
- Addressing backyard concerns with residents related to compliance and maintenance repairs.
- Ensuring the timely completion of work orders assigned, communicating timelines to residents.
- Supporting our flower Bed Program, including:
- Assisting in leading summer students to maintain beds outside of contract scope, such as watering, additional weeding, deadheading.
- Maintaining newly laid sod until established
- Assisting with the maintenance & upkeep of our community garden program.
- Pressure washing Earth Bins and building entrances as needed.
Contractor Oversight
- Acting as a liaison with regular property grounds contractors, ensuring compliance with contracts and company standards.
- Performing daily and weekly exterior inspections and addressing any minor items of concern immediately and escalating all larger issues.
- Collaborate with contractors to resolve issues, provide performance feedback as needed
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain equipment, tools, and materials, ensuring they are in good working order.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies while performing tasks, ensure that on-site contractors are also compliant.
- Support the Community Relations Managers to report, inspect and rectify residential compliance issues in a timely manner.
Maintenance Operations Department Support
- At times, assisting with service requests to support other departments, such as helping moving appliances and other large items.
- Identifying and repairing common area minor repairs and tripping hazards as needed.
- Supporting contractors and operations department through visual inspections of site during winter season ensuring snow is getting cleared and site safety is top priority. Reporting back any concerns or identified hazards on site with regards to snow removal, ice buildup or slippery conditions.
- Supporting Operations Technicians and staff by clearing snow in heavy/extreme conditions during winter.
- Additional tasks as assigned.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required. Certification in landscaping or horticulture is considered an asset.
- At least 2 years of experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or a related field. Experience with Interlock, flagstone and patio installation is considered an asset.
- Chainsaw license would be considered an asset.
- Previous experience overseeing contractors is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of landscaping techniques, equipment operation, and irrigation systems.
- A class G Ontario Driver’s License, and access to a reliable vehicle.
- The ability to work in awkward postures for extended periods of time is a requirement.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Demonstrated customer service skills & experience is a requirement.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills in English. Other language skills are an asset.
- As a condition of employment, must be willing to provide and maintain a clear and valid criminal background check.
- The ability to work independently and be self-motivated to meet timelines and identify hazards and areas of improvement is a requirement.
- Strong time-management skills and ability to organize tasks and set priorities are a requirement for this role.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- The job description implies the performance of repetitive tasks in all weather conditions.
- Occasional overtime may be required to meet deadlines.
- Travelling around site frequently is a requirement.
- At times you, you may be required to work in awkward positions for extended periods of time.
- Frequent lifting and carrying supplies or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. may be required.
