Job summary

Niagara Parks in Niagara Falls, Ontario, is seeking a seasonal & part-time team member to support grounds maintenance and horticulture tasks. You will assist with mowing, planting, and upkeep, working on-site in a dynamic park environment.

The role involves operating a range of equipment, performing basic horticultural tasks, and maintaining cleanliness. Flexible weekend work is required, with a start window April–July and a deadline August 31, 2026.

Qualifications

  • OSD or equivalent; applicable regulations knowledge.
  • OHSA knowledge required.
  • Experience with maintenance equipment is an asset.
  • 1 year related work experience; 1 year on the job.
  • Experience with hand tools and horticultural equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Cut grass with push mower and weed trimmer.
  • Maintain beds; seeding and top dressing.
  • Rake leaves and load debris.
  • Clean and maintain pavilions and washrooms.
  • Transport materials and operate fleet vehicles.
  • Operate equipment like sod cutters, rollers, fertilizer spreaders, loaders, and snow plough.

What You’ll Do
  • Cutting grass with push mower, weed trimmer.
  • Raking, seeding, applying top dressing, applying sod, and assisting Gardener with maintenance of beds.
  • Responsible for raking and loading leaves.
  • Clean and maintain pavilions.
  • Picks up litter/debris and disposes, as necessary.
  • Maintains cleanliness of washroom facilities as required.
  • Fills liquid soap containers and hand towel stations in Public Washrooms as needed.
  • Assist with tree planting under the direct guidance of Gardener or Team Lead.
  • Driving licenced fleet vehicles, operating tractor, riding mower, utility vehicles, chainsaw.
  • Performs basic horticultural maintenance tasks using lawn mowers, hand tools and other equipment.
  • Loads and unloads materials, equipment, and garbage.
  • Reports broken, lost or defective tools or equipment to Team Lead.
  • Waters a variety of plants.
  • Transports employees, supplies and materials to and from the job sites.
  • Loads and unloads trucks with materials and equipment; secures loads on the trucks.
  • Operates a variety of equipment such as sod cutters, rollers, fertilizer spreaders, aerators, front end loaders, forklifts, snow blowers and other equipment and a snowplough/sander tractor.
  • Cleans and paints equipment such as, garbage baskets and barbecues.
  • Cleans, washes, and maintains trucks and equipment.
  • Sweeps, mops, disinfects, polishes floors; cleans basins, toilets, mirrors and disposes garbage as required.
  • Removes boxes and garbage from building as required.
  • May be required to salt, sand and removes ice and snow from pathways, sidewalks, and parking lots.
  • Ability to perform the manual tasks of the position; communication and interpersonal skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Willingness to work weekends and in inclement weather conditions.
  • Reports any vandalism to the grounds or equipment to the Supervisor or Manager.
What You’ll Bring
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or have the equivalent knowledge and experience. Knowledge of any applicable legislation/regulations including the
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • General knowledge of various construction and maintenance equipment is an asset.
  • Various inhouse training on Riding Mowers, Tractors/Loaders and attachments, utility vehicles, trailers, licensed fleet vehicles, and chainsaw provided.
  • One-year related work experience, plus one year on the job.
  • Experience using hand tools, small equipment and general working knowledge of various horticultural construction and maintenance equipment.
