Job summary

Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is seeking a Labour Relations Consultant to work with the management team, union leaders and employees to sustain a positive work environment. You will support grievance handling, arbitration, contract negotiations and administration of collective agreements while contributing to performance management and professional development initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in human resources or a related discipline.
  • Minimum three years experience in labour/industrial relations with emphasis on collective bargaining, grievance handling or related areas.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and databases.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on grievance handling and arbitration in collaboration with management and unions.
  • Assist with contract negotiations and administration of collective agreements.
  • Support performance management systems and professional development initiatives.
  • Deliver client-service oriented labour relations support in a large, unionized environment.

Job description

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE) is the largest Centre for Education in Atlantic Canada with over 11,000 full-time, part-time and casual employees. Serving more than 60,000 students in 136 schools, our geographic region spans a 350 km radius.

The Labour Relations Consultant will be responsible for working with the management team, union leaders and employees to establish and sustain a positive work environment within the HRCE by supporting labour relations functions such as grievance and arbitration handling, contract negotiations and administration of collective agreements. The Labour Relations Consultant will also be responsible for providing leadership and support for a range of services that contribute to the growth and development of the organization including enhanced performance management systems and professional development. Working in a client-service based environment, the Labour Relations Consultant reports directly to the Director, Human Resource Services (or designate).

Qualifications
  • a) Undergraduate degree at the university level with a concentration in a human resources or related discipline or acceptable combination of training and experience;
  • (b) Minimum three (3) years experience in labour/industrial relations with an emphasis on collective bargaining, grievance handling or other areas dealing with employment and labour law or acceptable equivalent experience working in a large, unionized environment;
  • (c ) Proficiency using a variety of software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, database systems
Salary

This is a PEG (Professional Employees Group) position classified on the Education Entities Non-Union Compensation Framework at Band 9 with a salary range between $82,350-$102,938 eff Aug 1/26.
