Job summary

ALS is seeking a Laboratory/Warehouse Assistant – Workflow Operator to support our pulp storage function and keep laboratory workflows moving efficiently. You will assist weighers, track samples, and coordinate movement of client boxes in a fast-paced lab environment.

You will follow safety protocols, maintain accurate records, and work as part of a collaborative team with a focus on quality and timely sample availability across shifts, including day, afternoon, and overnight.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous laboratory, warehouse, sample-handling, or production experience is an asset.
  • Familiarity with WebView or similar laboratory information systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate movement, tracking, staging, and storage of client sample boxes.
  • Support weighing activities and ensure samples are available and accurately tracked.
  • Return weighed samples to storage and scan into correct location.

This role will work closely with the Batching Workflow team to assist weighers in meeting daily production targets while also providing support across laboratory operations during seasonal and workflow fluctuations.This is a hands-on opportunity for a dependable, organized individual who enjoys working as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.About the PositionAs a Laboratory/Warehouse Assistant – Workflow Operator, you will help coordinate the movement, tracking, staging, and storage of client sample boxes. Your work will directly support the weighing and batching processes and help ensure that samples are available when needed, accurately tracked, and returned to storage promptly.Key ResponsibilitiesSample Tracking & Workflow ManagementUse WebView to locate, transport, and update the disposition of client samples by work order or digestion run numberRetrieve and stage sample boxes on carts for weighersReturn sample boxes to storage and scan them into the appropriate location after weighingSupport weighing activities as requiredMaintain accurate sample movement and storage practicesOperational Standards & SafetyFollow established procedures, work instructions, and production schedules while maintaining analytical qualityWork safely and comply with all ALS health and safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulationsMaintain an organized and efficient work areaCommunicate workflow, sample, or equipment concerns, to the appropriate supervisor or managerPerform other related duties as assignedWhat You’ll BringCore Skills & CompetenciesAbility to perform repetitive tasks accurately and consistentlyAbility to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environmentBasic computer skills and the ability to use software applicationsFamiliarity with WebView or similar laboratory information systems is an assetGood organizational skillsStrong attention to detail and a quality-focused approachInterpersonal & Professional AttributesAbility to work cooperatively within a team environmentBasic written and verbal English communication skillsDependable, flexible, and willing to support changing operational prioritiesEducation and ExperienceGrade 12 diploma or equivalent preferredPrevious laboratory, warehouse, sample-handling, or production experience is an assetTraining will be provided to successful candidatesPhysical Requirements & Work EnvironmentAbility to lift up to 50 lbsManual dexterity to perform detailed and repetitive tasksAbility to wear required personal protective equipment, including dust masks and glovesAbility to sit and/or stand for a full shift of up to 7.5 hoursAbility to walk, bend, reach, and handle sample boxes and laboratory materials throughout the shiftWork may involve exposure to dust and unpleasant odours Shift RequirementsALS operates 24/7. This position requires the flexibility to work day, afternoon, and overnight shifts, including weekends.Compensation and BenefitsThe estimated hourly pay for this position is $20.26 CAD per hour at the time of posting. Shift premium available for afternoon and night shifts.
