Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist I for the Bacteriology unit at U of A Hospital in Edmonton. You will process, test, analyze and report diagnostic samples within a collaborative team and uphold safety and quality standards.
The role requires completion of an accredited MLT program and active or eligible registration with CMLTA, with experience in bacteriology and molecular testing.
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Clinical Microbiology (Bacteriology), you will perform, interpret, and report a variety of bacterial testing, specialized serology, and rapid molecular testing. The Technologist I will work within a team setting and ensure quality competency, high quality testing operations, and accurate results. Additionally, the Laboratory Technologist I will follow established safety protocols and work within the established quality system to uphold required accreditation standards. Under the direction of the medical/scientific staff, The Laboratory Technologist I is also responsible for operating laboratory technical equipment and training of new staff, and residents. Responsibilities also include participating in procedure review, new technology assessments, and accreditation processes.
As a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) I, you will be responsible for the daily processing, testing, results analysis and reporting of diagnostic samples within the laboratory department. You will perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures in the processing of specimens used in diagnosis, treatment and research.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta (CMLTA).
One to two years of recent Bacteriology experience within the past 5 years in a Public Health Laboratory.One to two years of experience operating molecular/NAT instruments.Experience with Connect Care and the Beaker Laboratory Information System
Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and analytical skills.Knowledgeable of the Human Pathogen and Toxins Act (HPTA).
