Job summary

SGS is seeking a Laboratory Technician in Canada to perform routine testing and analysis under supervision. You will follow written work instructions, prepare samples, log data in LIMS, and support equipment maintenance to ensure accurate results.

The role requires good data entry skills, ability to work rotating shifts (days, afternoons, evenings), and strong attention to detail. Previous lab exposure is an asset; you will work with a collaborative team to support quality systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Lab experience is an asset.
  • Good hand/eye coordination with samples & lab equipment.
  • Comfortable with numerals for data on a computer.
  • Able to read, understand and follow work instructions safely.
  • Able to work under pressure during high workloads.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management and attention to detail.
  • Able to work a rotating schedule - days, afternoons & evenings.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine testing and analysis under supervision.
  • Identify, prepare, and dilate samples as needed.
  • Log samples into LIMS accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain and record equipment calibrations.
  • Prepare standards and reagents.
  • Interpret and evaluate results.
  • Monitor equipment maintenance & laboratory supplies.
  • Follow quality system protocols and report discrepancies.

Job Description

This position will carry out various routine testing and analysis, following written work instructions under the direction of the Supervisor of a specific department.

  • Duties may include sample identification, sample preparation, sample dilutions,
  • Ensure samples are logged into LIMS accurately and in a quick manner.
  • Working knowledge of LIMS
  • Ensure samples are catalogued and stored in an efficient and easily retrievable manner.
  • Assists laboratory personnel in locating and retrieving of samples and also responsible for sample disposal or returning samples to clients.
  • Maintain and record equipment calibrations.
  • Preparation of standards and reagents.
  • Interpreting and evaluating results.
  • Monitor Equipment maintenance & laboratory supplies.
  • Follow all Quality system protocols, report discrepancies to the Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a high school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
  • Experience is a Laboratory environment is an asset.
  • Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples & lab equipment
  • Must be comfortable with numerals in order to monitor data on a computer screen.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Able to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and balancing conflicting demands of high volume versus the quality of results.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Able to work a rotating schedule - days, afternoons & evenings.
Additional Information

Compensation: $20.50 to $21.50 per hour / 40 hours per week.
