Job summary

SGS Canada is seeking a Laboratory Technician to conduct a wide variety of testing and analysis on base and precious metal ores, industrial minerals and materials.

You will perform sample reception, preparation and analysis, calibrate and maintain equipment, compile data and prepare reports while upholding safety and quality standards in a busy laboratory environment.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma in a science-related field is required.
  • 1–3 years of laboratory experience required.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook.
  • Strong reading/comprehension of work instructions; detail oriented.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing/analysis on ores, minerals and materials.
  • Prepare and calibrate equipment; operate systems as required.
  • Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples.
  • Compile data and prepare clear reports.
  • Maintain a clean, safe working environment.

Job Description

This position will conduct a wide variety of testing and analysis on base and precious metal ores, industrial minerals and materials.

  • Use an applied approach in performing moderate technological functions within laboratory or pilot plant operations.
  • Design, develop, test, install and operates equipment and systems.
  • Conduct applied research and experimental testing.
  • Compile and analyze data and prepare reports.
  • Receive, inspect, sort and label client samples.
  • Sort, crush, pulverize, split, and screen samples.
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment or components.
  • Calibrate and set up equipment prior to analysis.
  • Maintain a clean working environment.
Qualifications
  • Education: A post-secondary education (three-year diploma) in a Science related program (Chemistry, Metallurgical Engineering Technology, etc.) is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 1 – 3 years of experience in a laboratory setting is required.
  • Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples and various equipment.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Incumbents must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint & Outlook).
  • Proven effective time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in English, in both verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work well under pressure during high (peak) workloads and to balance conflicting demands of high volume versus quality of results.
Additional Information

Compensation: $20.50 to $21.50 per hour / 40 hours per week.
