Job summary

SGS is seeking a Laboratory Technician in Burnaby, Canada to perform and execute laboratory techniques following SOPs. You will document results, maintain records, manage supplies, and assist with equipment maintenance and safety procedures.

The role requires a science background with 1–3 years of related lab experience. Starting salary is $20.50 per hour with 80% coverage for Health, Dental and Vision, plus paid time off.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or Diploma in a science-related program or equivalent experience.
• 1–3 years of relevant laboratory work experience required.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory techniques as per SOPs to carry out analyses.
• Documents information by maintaining daily logs and equipment records.
• Record and interpret results, presenting to senior colleagues.
• Maintain lab supplies by inventorying stock.
• Assist in maintaining and operating equipment, troubleshoot, and record findings.
• Carry out routine instrument checks for compliance and accurate testing results.
• Assist with preparation of SOPs, validation protocols and reporting.
• Demonstrate safe work habits and maintain a clean, organized lab environment.
• Assist Department Supervisor in monitoring daily H&S checks and incident reports.

Job Description

• Performs and executes laboratory techniques as per methods independently, following the company’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to carry out analyses.
• Documents information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.
• Recording and periodically interpreting results to present to senior colleagues, results are evaluated in a timely manner.
• Keeps laboratory supplies readily available by inventorying stock.
• Assists in maintaining and operates equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns and performing preventive maintenance. Record findings in logbook.
• Carry out routine instrument checks for compliance and accurate testing results. Record findings in logbooks.
• Assists with the preparation of method SOP’s, validation protocol and reporting.
• Demonstrates safe work habits and enforces a clean and organized working environment.
• Assists the Department Supervisor in monitoring and checking for the completion of all daily H&S checks, monthly H&S meetings, emergency protocol and any incident/accident reports.

Qualifications

• Education: BSc. or Diploma in a Science related program or equivalent experience or training
• Experience: Minimum 1 – 3 years of relevant laboratory work experience required
