Job summary

Applus+ QPS is seeking a Laboratory Technician I to join our Toronto laboratory team. This entry-level role offers hands-on mechanical and electrical testing, documentation of results, equipment maintenance, and a path for professional growth in product testing and laboratory operations.

You'll work with experienced professionals, gain exposure to diverse testing methods, and receive training and mentorship to develop technical skills while contributing to a safe, organized lab environment.

Qualifications

  • Training, education, or experience in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with standard software applications.
  • Experience using hand tools and basic shop equipment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and perform standard mechanical and electrical tests under the guidance of senior laboratory staff.
  • Assist with more advanced testing activities and projects.
  • Prepare samples according to established procedures and specifications.
  • Document test results accurately and maintain required records.
  • Learn to interpret test specifications and acceptance criteria.
  • Support the repair, calibration, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks, test records, and technical reports.
  • Help keep the laboratory clean, organized, and operating efficiently.
  • Operate basic shop equipment and hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and laboratory team members.
  • Follow all safety procedures, quality requirements, and company policies.
  • Report quality concerns or nonconformances as appropriate.
  • Coordinate workload priorities and communicate testing progress and turnaround times.
  • Cross-train in other areas of the organization as opportunities arise.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Applus+ QPS is seeking a Laboratory Technician I to join our Toronto laboratory team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work and is looking to build a career in product testing, engineering support, and laboratory operations.

In this entry-level role, you'll work alongside experienced laboratory professionals to conduct mechanical and electrical testing, collect and document results, maintain equipment, and support a safe and organized lab environment. We provide training, mentorship, and opportunities for growth as you develop your technical skills and gain exposure to a wide range of products and testing methods.

Reports To: Laboratory Manager

What You'll Do

As a Laboratory Technician I, you will:

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications

  • Experience in a testing laboratory, manufacturing, technical, or product development environment.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and managing test data.
  • Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment and procedures.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to inspect samples, equipment, and test results, with or without corrective lenses.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and tools safely.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, specifications, and computer screens.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry test samples, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
