Job description

Basic Function

Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair company, located in Mississauga, is seeking a Supervisor for our Quality Control Laboratory. Reporting to the Manager, Analytical & QC, the QC Lab Supervisor is responsible for managing a team of unionized QC Lab Technicians who perform testing analysis to support the safe operations of the Refinery and the release of on-spec products.

Job Duties

1. Supervise a team of unionized Lab Technicians to perform testing analysis while ensuring safety and performance standards are met.
2. Manage Lab Technicians' performance and development as per the Performance Based Progression (PBP) program and the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
3. Collaborate with HR and Union to handle personnel issues such as grievances, attendance management, corrective counseling, promotion, performance, hiring process, and other issues.
4. Lead all QC lab activities to comply with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and IATF 16949 requirements.
5. Act as a QC Lab liaison in all collaboration projects with other departments.
6. Plan and schedule sufficient resources to support the business.
7. Lead the Lab Technicians to execute activities to minimize unplanned downtime.
8. Collaborate with other departments to investigate issues and concerns related to the QC Lab.
9. Lead by example by advocating the One HF Sinclair values (Safety, Integrity, Teamwork, Ownership, Inclusion).
10. Empower Lab Technicians by coaching, developing, recognizing, and celebrating their accomplishments through appropriate rewards as per company policy.
11. Be available after hours to handle unplanned situations.

Experience

• Hands-on experience with refinery and oil testing analysis.
• Supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
• Supervisory experience in an analytical testing laboratory.
• Experience working in an ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 accredited laboratory.

Education Level

• B. Sc. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

Work Conditions

• Office-based within a refinery/manufacturing site, including laboratory and outdoor environments.
• Work involves chemicals, tank wagons, tank cars, and tanks.
• On-call 24/7 due to refinery operations.

Physical Requirements

Includes standing, walking, sitting, climbing up to 20ft, wearing PPE, visual inspections, reading, writing, math, color perception, and effective communication.
