Job summary

A leading healthcare organization is seeking a Laboratory Information Systems Officer to manage and support LIS operations. Qualifications

Job Description

Every lab result depends on a system that functions reliably behind the scenes. As a Laboratory Information Systems Officer, you’ll shape the digital infrastructure that drives diagnostics. You’ll work closely with technologists, pathologists, and IT teams to ensure timely, accurate, and secure data flow. Your work directly impacts patient care by reducing errors, minimizing disruptions, and ensuring clinical teams receive accurate, reliable results. This role focuses on Pathology and Diagnostic Medical Genetics systems supporting Digital Pathology, next-generation sequencing, and genetic testing workflows.

About the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine team

Mount Sinai Hospital’s Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (PLM) is a recognized leader in Canada, offering a wide range of diagnostic services and advanced genetic testing. Our team includes professionals dedicated to improving patient care through innovative diagnostics and research.

In this role, you will:
  • Monitor, maintain, and support the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
  • Troubleshoot LIS issues and keep detailed records
  • Ensure LIS integrity through tests and audits
  • Support and oversee LIS change requests and system upgrades
  • Build and troubleshoot data interfaces with lab equipment and hospital systems
  • Provide training and guidance to laboratory staff
  • Participate in system validation, project planning, and implementation
  • Monitor daily error logs and resolve system setup issues
  • Maintain patient data accuracy and security
  • Develop reports and support quality assurance
  • Conduct meetings to develop solutions and meet regulatory standards
  • Manage user access and ensure compliance with security policies
  • Perform other duties as required
Job Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Bachelor of Science or in Computer Science
  • Advanced Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or Pathologists’ Assistant Program
  • Registration with CMLTO and/or CCCPA-CCCAP
  • Minimum 5 years recent experience in Clinical Pathology or DMG using LIS

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in LIS
  • Experience with web services, Microsoft Access, ODBC, CAP requirements (asset)
  • Knowledge of HL7 and ASTM standards (advantage)
  • Strong teaching, mentoring, and interpersonal skills
  • Good multitasking, time management, and deadline skills
