Job summary

Douglas College is seeking a Laboratory Facilitator in Chemistry to guide students through lab procedures, prepare engaging assignments, and maintain an organized, safe lab environment at the New Westminster and Coquitlam campuses.

This temporary part-time role involves 14 hours per week for a 4-month term, starting Sept 1, 2026, with shift hours between 8 am and 6 pm, Monday to Friday. Occasional evenings or weekends may be required.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication with students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in demonstrating proper laboratory techniques.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and lab safety practices.
  • Good command of English, written and spoken.

Laboratory Facilitator, Chemistry

$32.04 per hour (with wage increments to a max of $36.06 per hour). Salary and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

  • Excellent working knowledge of the operation and routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and apparatus together with good working knowledge of safety measures related to the operation of the Chemistry laboratory, including WHMIS .
  • Good working knowledge of English (written and verbal).
  • A demonstrated ability to:
    • communicate courteously and effectively in person, in writing and over the telephone with students, faculty, administrators, staff, and the public.
    • work independently with minimum direct supervision.
    • establish priorities and achieve deadlines.

  • This temporary part-time (14 hours per week) 4-month term position is available starting Sept 1, 2026.
  • Regular hours of work fall between 8 am and 6 pm, Monday to Friday, with actual schedules varying within this window. Shift days and times may change depending on the Department’s need. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
  • One position is located at the New Westminster campus, and one position is located at the Coquitlam campus; however, the successful candidate must be available for occasional work at either campus.
