Job summary

Dynacare is seeking a Laboratory Assistant - LHSC (Float) to support blood sample processing, data entry, and patient-facing service across South Okanagan LHSC locations, including Osoyoos. The role is 37.5 hours per week, full-time, onsite, with weekday shifts.

You will obtain quality samples, enter requisitions and results accurately, adhere to SOPs, and support a positive patient experience in a fast-paced lab environment. Strong phlebotomy skills and CSMLS/BCSLS credentials are preferred.

Qualifications

• CSMLS or BCSLS certification or MLA program; related science degree acceptable with experience
• 1 year patient-facing phlebotomy experience may be considered
• Customer-focused with genuine care for patient health
• Phlebotomy skill with calming approach for anxious patients
• Ability to manage deadlines and be detail oriented
• Proficiency in English (written and spoken)

Responsibilities

• Create an ideal customer experience that is best in class and engages with individuals around our products and services
• Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using venipuncture techniques
• Sort and steer specimens and perform ECG’s
• Ensure specimens and documentation are completed per SOPs and ready for data entry and transport
• Maintain confidentiality and contribute to quality metrics and compliance

As a Laboratory Assistant - LHSC (Float), you are responsible for processing blood samples and other laboratory specimens, entering requisitions and results accurately – all in a timely manner. You also play an important role in providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience. These can be stressful situations for patients, and you need to display empathy, care, and kindness. Testing results are often critical for patients, and you are there to help and make an impact on their lives.

Status: Full time (37.5 h /week)

Hours of Work: Mon - Fri, between 7.30am - 3:00pm

Location: Coverage at South Okanagan LHSC: Osoyoos

How YOU will make a difference:

• Create an ideal customer experience that is best in class and engages with individuals around our products and services
• Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions
• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values
• Sort and steer specimens and perform ECG’s
• Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples
• Ensure all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion. Contribute to meeting the departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators

What YOU bring to the role:

• You are CSMLS or BCSLS certified and/or a graduate of an MLA program accredited by BCSLS or equivalent awarding body (Canadian)
• Applicants with a Bachelor degree in a related scientific discipline, or international MLA or MLT qualification, AND a minimum of 1 year patient-facing phlebotomy experience may also be considered
• You are customer-focused with a genuine care for patient’s health
• Demonstrate skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner
• Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented environment
• Be extremely detail oriented
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients
• Ability to attend shifts at various LHSCs across region
• 25 to 40 words per minute typing speed required

Pay rate: $27.00-$30.75 per hour

The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
