Job summary

Alberta Precision Laboratories seeks a mobile Medical Laboratory Assistant to perform specimen collection and processing in a Red Deer setting. You will support the Mobile Collections team by delivering accurate services to patients in care facilities and private homes, while adhering to safety and privacy standards.

The role requires phlebotomy experience and ECG certification, a valid Class 5 license, and strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy experience and ECG certification required.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality mobile collection services to patients in long-term care facilities and private residences.
  • Procure, handle, process, dispatch and test specimens in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory data entry and patient care standards on site.

Alberta Precision Laboratories’ Mobile Collections team is seeking independent, skilled, and experienced Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLAs) to support our mobile service areas. As a Mobile MLA, you will deliver high‑quality collection services to patients in long‑term care facilities and private residences, helping ensure timely and reliable laboratory results for some of Alberta’s most vulnerable populations.This role requires frequent lifting of up to 10 lbs. and the ability to apply strong organizational, problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and decision‑making skills. You will rely on effective time‑management and task‑prioritization to complete repetitive tasks with accuracy while providing safe, respectful, and patient‑focused care.If you are motivated by meaningful work and thrive in a dynamic, independent environment, this position offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to high‑quality laboratory services across the province. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Previous phlebotomy experience and ECG certification required. Valid Class 5 driver’s license and a driver’s abstract acceptable to APL. Experience recognizing patients in distress and providing appropriate assistance. Experience with laboratory data entry.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of two years of recent phlebotomy experience. ECG experience. Previous experience working in a Mobile Collections environment. Experience working with Connect Care and Mobile Collections Information System (MCIS). Excellent organizational, problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and decision‑making skills. Strong commitment to professionalism and maintaining confidentiality. Training or courses in leadership, customer service, or change management.
