Alberta Precision Labs is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant I for the Northern Lights Health Centre in Fort McMurray. You will perform pre-analytical tasks including phlebotomy, specimen accessioning, ECGs, and reception duties while supporting a fast-paced laboratory team.
You will work in a 24/7 operation with a Fort McMurray Allowance, with duties spanning procurement, handling, processing, and reporting of specimens to ensure timely results.

This allowance will be calculated on an hourly basis and paid per pay period for all Employer-paid hours at the Basic Rate of Pay, exclusive of overtime. This allowance is non-pensionable.
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program. Phlebotomy experience is required. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities are necessary. Excellent communication skills both written and oral are required. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, be adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. Must be able to represent Laboratory Medicine in a respectful, professional, and courteous manner.The primary responsibilities of the Laboratory Assistant I include performing all aspects of the pre-analytical path of workflow including phlebotomy for adults, children and infants using both macro and micro techniques, accessioning patient specimens, troubleshooting problem specimens, performing ECGs, and reception duties. The successful candidate will provide support to the lab by collecting and processing quality specimens for analysis.
Experience with EPIC Beaker LIS preferred.
