Job summary

Alberta Health Services (AHS) in Sundre, AB is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant I for the Myron Thompson Health Centre at 0.65 FTE. You will conduct procurement, processing, testing, and reporting of specimens in a busy laboratory, working independently within a collaborative team.

Qualified MLA program graduates with urinalysis and cardiology training (ECGs/Holter) and blood collection across all ages are required.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality service in the clinical laboratory; procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, and reporting results.

This is a working level Laboratory Assistant I position utilizing technical skills and judgment performing a diverse range of procedures within the scope of practice of a Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA). Qualified MLA's will be considered for this position. Applicants must be able to work independently and perform all aspects within the scope of practice of an MLA including all specimen procurement and blood collection procedures as well as cardiology and urinalysis including microscopic analysis.

You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited urinalysis course including microscopic analysis. Urinalysis experience including microscopic analysis is required. Cardiology training and experience including ECGs and Holter Monitors. Able to perform all blood collection procedures including venipuncture, micro-punctures, blood culture collection as well as collections on all patient ages including newborns, pediatrics and geriatrics.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Connect Care Epic is an asset. Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Experience using MUSE and Cardioday applications. Familiar with Clinitek Advantus.
