Job summary

ALS Canada is seeking a Centralized Soil Prep Laboratory Assistant to join a team performing sample preparation, routine maintenance tasks, and simple analyses. You will assist analysts, retrieve and store samples, weigh and tray samples, and follow established procedures while maintaining safety and quality. The role includes training duties and requires strong English communication and reliable teamwork. ALS operates 24/7 and requires day, afternoon, and graveyard shifts including weekends.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous Laboratory experience.
• Good English communication (auditory, verbal, writing, reading).
• Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

About the Position:

The Centralized Soil Prep Laboratory Assistant is part of a team performing simple and complex sample preparation, routine laboratory maintenance tasks, and simple analyses.

Specific Responsibilities

• Sample Disposal;
• Assist analysts;
• Train Lab Assistants;
• Retrieve samples from storage;
• Store samples in sample cooler;
• Weighing and traying samples under supervision;
• Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
• Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Good English communication skills required (auditory, verbal, writing, and reading);
• Basic user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and confident with computers;
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment;
• Well organized, with proven ability to meet strict deadlines;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required;
• Commitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude.

Required Qualifications

• Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required;
• Previous Laboratory experience.

Physical Demands

• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
• Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
• Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coat, gloves etc., when required;
• You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;

• An estimated hourly pay of $19.82 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
