Job summary

LifeLabs is seeking a Lab Patient Technician in Mississauga for a temporary, part-time role. Duties include greeting patients, collecting specimens, performing phlebotomies, ECGs, and special tests, with travel to Meadowvale and Georgetown locations.

Must be able to work some Saturdays; start ASAP and end date around 12 months. Training and compliance with privacy standards are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills required.
• Good computer skills and 40 wpm typing recommended.

Responsibilities

• Greet and collect required information from patients; explain the process.
• Perform phlebotomies and connect/disconnect holter monitors; perform ECGs.
• Handle special tests (drug screens, paternity tests, trials) and document accordingly.
• Maintain client relationships and respond to inquiries.
• Enter patient demographics and requisition information accurately.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

Job description

Lab Patient Technician you will be responsible for the specimen collection process, from greeting patients through to preparation of specimens for transportation. This is an important role in patient care and our business, and will let you see the difference that you make in patients’ lives.

Status: Temporary
Schedule: Part-Time
Additional requirements: Float for Meadowvale, and potential travel to Georgetown locations (Hillside and Sinclair). Hours can be from opening shift at 7am and closing shift ends at 5:30 pm. Must work Saturdays.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Greet and request required information from patients, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure patients have followed necessary test protocol prior to specimen collection.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections, such as medical/legal drug screens, paternity tests, and clinical trials, and complete related documentation.
• Maintain client relationships, including responding to inquiries and following up on requests.
• Complete data entry of required patient demographics, requisition information, and other information related to processing test results.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.

What you will bring to the role:

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent are preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
